This is beautiful, in a very twisted sort of way. One assumes that it was intended to be the Devil in a slightly less redhorned-and-goofy way, but it matches up perfectly to some rather disturbed descriptions I've heard of God that supposedly justify the actions they say he takes.

Nightmare fuel if you're a little kid, obviously, but it makes a statement that I don't believe it meant to.

Yeah, more like my interpretation of Mishna is better than yours; they already know who's going to hell already :P

Hillel/Shammai OTP, their love argues about pretty much everything.

The Jewish belief in Hell got squashed down a lot over the millenia. There's precedent for it, but very few people gave it much thought and it was assumed all the mostly good people went there eventually.

All this got me thinking about the the eighteenth level of hell. Don't ask why.

Buddhist mythology; the 18 levels of hell are where one who had been very bad gets punished.

The 18th is where you are put on a platform over fire; if you get pushed off, you burn. And you aren't reincarnated.

I can't say I'd ever heard of that. Or of hells in general in Buddhist mythology; that sounds more like incorporated folk legend.

Probably, but apparently there are a ton of sutras on the subject. It's big in Chinese Buddhism but also in Tibetan
Buddhism.

Like all good mythologies, it's fascinating.

Yeah, mythology rocks. Although for some reason my brain likes to wander towards the medieval/Renaissance Christian folklore area when left to its own devices.
