This is beautiful, in a very twisted sort of way. One assumes that it was intended to be the Devil in a slightly less redhorned-and-goofy way, but it matches up perfectly to some rather disturbed descriptions I've heard of God that supposedly justify the actions they say he takes.

Nightmare fuel if you're a little kid, obviously, but it makes a statement that I don't believe it meant to.

Augh, I've seen that.

SO CREEPY. (And extra creepy for being claymation.) Someday I need to to see the whole movie

The whole movie's up on YouTube, actually. I've been watching it and it's all a bit on the cracked side.

But this scene in particular is so grotesque that it moves me.

If you wanna get all philosophical, since God is supposed to be responsible for everything that happens (omnipotent), then Satan and all his mischief is by his design. At this point, one has to wonder where God stops and Satan begins, eh?
Just a little religious LSD. Enjoy the trip.

See, this is why I like literature that favors the Devil and co. in some form or fashion (thank you, [livejournal.com profile] navigatorsghost). It's pretty much all God's fault in the first place, it's just that Satan had the balls to say 'fuck you' and go do his own thing.

Just imagine what this could've stirred up if Satan said flood and fireballs instead. It's this... brutal and heartless innocence that I really like about the character portrayed in this animation, and the fact that it portrays Satan as a deity figure or at least a demigod rather than just an angel.

Destruction by lightning is a classic 'God' trait, actually. And yeah, that's exactly it.

I think the clip might have actually been banned at some point.

All I could think is "I do this all the time with my Sims--I am like Satan! Mom was right."

Now I feel bad for killing them when they act stupid (with lighting too).

My brother keeps reminding me it's only a game.

I have to admit, that clip made me think about matters I usually avoid.

I wish people'd think about it more. Usually it's just spouting off whatever they learned from their authority figure and they never want to discuss it with me.

I've learned the subject makes most people very uncomfortable.

I can't imagine why. You'd think someone so passionate about their beliefs would want to think deeply about them.

Most people don't want to think; the possibility that their beliefs may be wrong is too much for them.

In the US, all you have to do is look at the disaster that is Operation Iraqi Freedom Five years and counting.

Not that I want to get into a debate about it but it was evident early on everything considered fact turned out to be disinformation, yet we are forced to slog on. It's indicative of the tendency to avoid serious debate.

I don't know jack from the Iraqi War, and in the interests of integrity I try not to hold an opinion on it (besides the fact it was damn moronic to begin with). But politics are one thing, religious beliefs about the very nature of the universe is another.

You might notice that belief in creationism goes down as education level increases, and yet some people refuse to educate themselves about even the simplest of concepts relating to evolution instead of preferring to think that scientists believe we all came from monkeys. There's ignorance, but there's also the drive to remain ignorant.

Oh Lawd, the creationists managed to force the Interior to sell creationist propaganda at bookstores maintained by the National Park Service. That had me reeling.

If you look closely, these same beliefs seem to drive our irrational Iraq policy. I was dumbfounded when the born-agains singled out Jewish cadets at the Air Force Academy for observing Sabbath. Not to mention some of the more extreme apocalyptic comments made by senior commanders who believe inciting civil wars in the Middle East will hasten the Rapture.

The desire to remain ignorant seems deeply ingrained.despite education levels.

I just don't understand the drive behind it. Why would you choose ignorance? Why would challenging your own beliefs harm you?

I dunno, I've had interesting conversations with Mormon missionaries and Catholic priests and they seem fine with discussing this; it's those who believe theology is an ideology who can't accept to have their beliefs challenged.

The only chances I've had for in depth conversations on religion tend to be with people who wind up with 'God is good, therefore anything this book says God says is good, if you were one of us you'd truly know it' and it never goes farther than that.

Jews tend to be a little more casual about it.

Hillel/Shammai OTP, their love argues about pretty much everything.

The Jewish belief in Hell got squashed down a lot over the millenia. There's precedent for it, but very few people gave it much thought and it was assumed all the mostly good people went there eventually.
