Behold! My first Serious Business post in my blog for Serious Business! I figure this'll keep the angst separate from the porn.
In other news, Disney has some questionable taste in jewelry. Because when I think of nooses, my first mental image tends not to be swashbuckling.
(Boots? Your package came in. I'll tear into it when I get home.)

Date: 2007-11-30 09:05 pm (UTC)...oh. Hmm. I'm guessing this makes the Littlest Pirate the new Jesus.
This could be big. I'm seeing a whole line here; pendants shaped like electric chairs! Charm bracelets with tiny little needles, guillotines and stones on them! Tiaras shaped like bonfires, perhaps even with a decorative supposedly-a-witch in the centre, to really give it that Disney sparkle.

Always wondered; if a gun, a knife or even a wrench were available in the building, who would go to the effort of using a rope? Garrotting is hard enough, but lynching someone with your bare hands?
Unless Ms Scarlet was into some snuff roleplay that went EXCEEDINGLY wrong.

There is very little American media from the 40's and 50's that doesn't scare me to death, but honest-to-god, that expresion on Goofy's face? I have seen that exact same expression in cartoons of the old NP government leaders. Yowza.
One thing that irritates me; Mulan got her story from a Chinese myth. Aladdin got his story from a Middle-Eastern myth. And their new Black Princess? She gets an English myth set in an American town. Because Africa has no mythology. At all. *sideways glances at five nearest books* Either that, or Disney was terrified that its animators couldn;t actually draw traditional African dress without feeling compelled to add banana skin skirts and a coconut bra.
*huffs*

When it's not racially insensitive cartoons it tends to be whitebread or propaganda that makes you want to both laugh and kill things. The 50s were weird in a special way.
I suppose you could make a faint case for Rafiki having aspects of an African shaman, but that's still pretty reaching. *has read through Sundiata this semester and finds it quite awesome*

The Travelling Lobotomy Salesman. Those were the days. *laughs. And kills things*

*envies; has been stuck with Catullus and the ways he liked to make refined intellectual fun of his enemies: 'DOOD, UR GAY!'*

Date: 2007-11-30 11:54 pm (UTC)What he did was kill them without stopping their hearts. And their families were left to deal with a drooling zombie imitation of their loved ones. Hell, he'd have done it to any member of my family; we've all got at least one pretty obvious abnormality (ADD, OCD, etc.)
(And on another weird tangent; this is why I cannot actually read about Zatanna anymore, or take seriously any story where the good guy erases the villain's memory, or alters his personality. It's also why the question of permanent 'reprogramming' in TF fiction has always induced shudders.)
