Went to see the therapist. She's not bad, but I kinda came out feeling worse then when I went in. I'll give her a month or two, see how it works.

My next assignment in Creative Writing is a short story, due Thursday. This is a problem, because while I have plenty of characters running around in my head (Adam the sociopathic murderer, Najwa the mute Pakistani scientist’s assistant, Tom and Scott the brothers born the same year but on opposite ends of it), but no full fledged stories. It's annoying.

A local radio station did a "War of the Worlds"-like prank by pretending to read the last part of Half-Blood Prince on the air at 7:00 a few mornings ago. However, what was read was actually a reasonably clever(according to reports, I never actually heard it) fake ending, in which Malfoy kills Harry instead.

They were flooded with phone calls, some from distraught parents claiming their children were crying and others such as the bookstore owner who said that sales of the book would drop sharply and that she would never play that station in her store again.

One memorable one said that she had gotten the book at Target and that "the Target version" didn't have that ending. The station-peeps told her this was the British version with an alternate ending. Apparently she believed them.

They finally 'fessed up around 8:30, but by then the damage was done and many children were already in school.

Idiots. Really.

So went out with [livejournal.com profile] wingdance to see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory this evening.

It rocked, seriously. Depp!Wonka was perfect; a sort of fey, almost sociopathic at times child who was given an actual background(that scene at the end was just plain cute). Charlie was of course adorable, and the other children perfectly bratty. The Oompa Loompas were awesome on general principle, and I liked how everyone else in the movie thought the musical numbers were a bit contrived as well.

Although I'm not sure what was going on there with Violet and Veruca at the beginning of the factory tour.

Violet: Let's be friends!

Veruca: Best friends!

(They link arms, grinning at each other in an almost Decepticonly fashion.)

...yeah.

You put limitations on a person's best means of talking to people she likes, that's not right, just, or healthy. Return soon, Pepper!

Am in Physical Therepy this week for the program. It's not that bad, although I saw way way more then I wanted to while being in the wrong place in relation to an old guy in a hospital gown.

Finally got to see more Galaxy Force(thank you [livejournal.com profile] horsetechie). For the record, Hop is adorable do the point of being able to do Jedi-espe mind tricks, Nitro Convoy is pretty, Thundercracker is hot, and Galaxy Convoy wants Starscream's sexy body("No, you go off and find the Chip Square. Leave Starscream to me!").

An odd thing happened at the Lavender Fest )

Sometimes I wish I were born ten or so years before the original Transformers movie was released.

Seeing Unicron for the first time, feeling the horror and sadness of watching my favorite characters destroyed before my eyes, chuckling at the Junkions and Dinobots, sitting on the edge of my seat and wondering who would come out victorious in the battles between Primes and ‘trons. It must have been awesome. Knowing everything beforehand took the impact out of the movie, even though I still enjoyed it.

I suppose I’m being overly nostalgic or something, but it really would have been something to experience, I think.

Even though I already knew the entire plot practically by heart from fan-talk and fics, the sheer body count in the movie still surprised me the first time I watched it. They were just gunned down mercilessly, or thrown out of Astrotrain without a second thought or even vaguely elaborate death scenes. The pained “Brothers!” from one of the Decepticons (might have been Skywarp, I’m not sure) as he was pushed out of the hatch rather struck at me. If I had been seeing the movie with metaphorical virgin eyes, I’m sure I would have been in tears at least once. They could never get away with such carnage of beloved characters in today’s movies.

The Moral Messages were there without being banged in with a sledgehammer. The Autobots supported each other, made new friends across the worlds, and triumphed over evil through the power of their courage.

And the evil Galvatron wasn’t pure evil either. He wanted power, but was willing to ally himself with Hot Rod against a greater foe. The characters weren't so much propped up cardboard, they had more of a "human" aspect then those in many so-called adult movies that I've seen. No, I do not mean porn. I mean like PG13 movies and not-cartoons, which seem to be getting more inane every week.

The music was great, I think. Fit in with the pace of things, fast action or mourning or just plain scary. I liked the little details that were irrelevant to the major plot, like Starscream having to shoot his own foot to escape.

The movie moved pretty quickly too, and onward, an almost symbolic journey from a peaceful Earth to the belly of the Chaos God himself. I could find all kinds of symbolism in the Leadership Matrix alone(There's another thing. No way you could get away now with calling something the Matrix without the obligatory pop-culture reference, which would spoil the whole thing).

Makes me feel like I missed something really important, just by being born too late.

Everyone’s got their own opinion on the upcoming live action Transformers movie. Some seem to think that it will suck regardless of writing, actors, or animation, just because it is being done today and not two decades ago. Some are quietly resigning themselves to the fact that it might not be as good as they hope, but could still have some nice points. Some are being optimistic that it will be better then they had feared.

Here’s my take on the whole mess.

I hope it won’t be utterly kidified, but will attempt to give some depth to the Decepticon characters as well as the Autobots and humans. I hope it will have interesting plot twists. I hope that it is interesting and has good, well thought out writing. I hope it’ll be fun, with both dark parts and light-hearted banter.

Most of all, I hope that it will have giant transforming robots. Thank you.

Woo...

Finally, finally took the SATs this morning, the thing I've been studying for for the past week. Not as bad as I thought it would be, though the essay gave me trouble.

Went to Toys R Us three days ago and got a massive TF haul, about $55 dollars worth of stuff(family thinks I'm nutty). Energon Demolisher(Snowcat's happy now), Sixshot(who is very pretty) and Offshoot, as well as a little toy Star Saber and Dark Saber that make little wooshy noises when I wave them.

Lake's finally warmed up to the point where I can go swimming, too, so I can more or less relax until my job starts next week. And I'm going to pretend that summer reading doesn't exist.

Edit: Posted the first chapter of my Thrustfic, if anyone's particularly interested. No, not that Thrust. Not that Thrust either. Yeah, that Thrust. The cool one.

My cousin came in from Israel two days ago. She's a very nice woman, about my grandmother's age. However she is hard of hearing and has this mildly annoying habit of, when she doesn't understand you, simply smiling and nodding as if she does. Therefore, you don't know exactly how much of what you are saying is getting through. Still, a sweet woman. We took her to Rock City yesterday and I think she really enjoyed herself.

Pivot's finally gotten her site up:

http://pivot892000.tripod.com/theturningpoint/index.html

It houses an Armada Thrust shrine(I am a really big fan of the tactician) as well as the Conehead Protection Society, a group dedicated to reducing Thrust-bashing in fics and promoting pro-Thrust literature. We're four members strong at the moment, but we're getting stronger. I think.
