seiberwingThe Socialist League's got a plywood wall about fifteen feet long up set up on the quad, apparently to protest the wall being built in Israel. It's covered in spray paint of both the sympathetic and disrespectful types, and several people have tried to kick it down under the cover of darkness. All very silly. I went over to talk to them yesterday and it was interesting.
Me: *engages in preemptory small talk with Socialist Babe, who was sitting at a table in front of it*
Socialist Babe: Have you heard about the Apartheid wall in Israel? (Actual term used).
Me: Yep, in fact I've seen it.
Her: Oh, you've been to Israel? *obviously is about to go on a rant*
Me: *nod* Several times. I've got family and friends there.
Her: You have family in Israel?
Me: Yep. Cousins near Tel Aviv and friends in Hadera.
Her: Oh.
Me: *watches in amusement as what was going to be a rant dries up in the face of someone who might see 'the enemy' as people*
And then she went to whitewash over some of the sillier things on the wall, such as football references.

I kinda look at them with the "Don't start on that face...I was one." and they get all quiet...makes me feel better.
