seiberwing: (WTF?)
[personal profile] seiberwing

I found out today that my golden retriever Britney has cancer, a real bad kind. She's about fourteen, which is in the upper nineties for a dog according to my mom, and we've had her about eight years. I can say with authority that she's lived a good life. *reminisces about the time she attacked a skunk, got sprayed along with me, and brought half of its corpse into the house*

We're going to put her down on Monday, so there's the weekend to give her cuddles and such.

You looked down when I passed you in the hall.

I'm sorry. We had to do the same with my dog two years ago when she was sixteen. I'm glad that you have a few days and that she lived a happy life.

Not my fault that by the time I went off to school, we had all gotten acclimated enough to the stench that I didn't know how bad I was.

Hey, you got an icon!

I'm sorry. *hugs* It always hurts to lose pets, especially one that's been part of your family for so long and has brought you so much joy. But you're doing the right thing. Give her a cuddle for me, and give yourself a cuddle.

We've been giving many many snuggles at every avalible opportunity. What's sad is that she's acting as if she's improving now because of all that attention. But the vet says she'll just be in more pain if we wait.

And your icon is so cute.

It's always painful when you have to do that... I woke up Wed or Thurs morning to barking that reminded me of Belle (big white Great Pyranese.)

We got her when I was six months old; she'd been a member of the family as far as I can remember. We had to put her down opening night of "Wizard of Oz" in the 8th grade; I had to say goodbye to her and then go to RMS and act the part of the Wizard, knowing I would never see her again. I think I cried backstage; I can't quite remember.

At least there are the good memories.

*hugs* Sorry, I didn't mean to ask for sympathy; just tryin' to say that i share your pain :P

i know a family that's on their third golden retriever, btw. (erm, maybe just their third dog, but i think they've always wanted golden retrievers.) they have the tradition of naming each one "Bob Barker". always has struck me as odd; kind of deindividualizes the animal...

... anyway back to the point: golden retrievers rock, sorry yours has passed on :(

Bob Barker was clever the first time, but three of them is odd.

Goldens are love. They're like big happy piles of fur.
