seiberwing: (WTF?)

I called home today to talk with my mom. Mom wasn't home so I got the answering machine. The 'leave a message' recording was in a strange monotone, definitely not either of my parents and it took me a moment to recognize whose voice it was.

Remember Bavid's friend who came over for his bar mitzvah? The one who's sort of like David but cranked up to eleven and in a pokemon-wise direction? For someone unfathomable reason he decided to mess with my parents' answering machine, delete their recording, re-record his own message over it, and not tell anyone about it afterwards. It wasn't even anything weird, just "You have reached the [Seiberfamily] residence. Please leave a message after the tone". Just because.

I have seen quite a bit of autism in my day but that boy is just plain random .

This is precisely why I love the autistic spectrum.

My brother's done some weird stuff too but he's not in the habit of going through people's stuff for absolutely no reason.

Also he's not hyperverbal, for which I'm thankful every minute that his friend's over.

I

That's

Huh?

Does he just not realize why that kind of thing's just not done, or what? I'm confused.

The default setting on autism is a lack of ability to empathize with others and see their point of view, which means not understanding that what makes sense to you might not make sense to other people.

But yeah, not a clue what the logic was there. This is the same kid who, upon coming to our house the first time, went through the kitchen and took out all the pots and pans.

Was he able to offer some kind of explanation for his behavior, or was it a 'just felt like it' kind of thing?

I mean, autism shortcircuits empathy, not rationality, right? There's still got to be some reason somewhere in there for him to do things.

I don't know, he was long gone by the time I found out about it. People don't usually have the habit of listening to their own answerphone messages, after all.

Mom called his mom, I'm eager to hear her reaction (besides "LOL FOREVER").
