Not quite wank, but amusing.

Over on shootfortheedit.com (no, I don't know what it means), a rather annoying individual named Shadow posts up information for the upcoming Transformers 2 movie, saying he's got contacts at Hasbro. Sneaky, sneaky.

And then fish happens.

See, this isn't "insider info". This is Sparta the Koipedia. For the uninitiated, the Koipedia is basically a compilation of Transformers fanon as developed by [livejournal.com profile] koilungfish. Unlike some fanon it has connections to canon events, but it's hardly insider material. Hilarity.

Oh, frag me, that's priceless. *dies*

Maybe Koi should mail these threads to Hasbro and apply for a job. If people love its stuff when they think it's canon, there is a logical conclusion to be drawn...

I did comment on that to Koi. You can tell that it's Koi material rather than Hasbro material, because Hasbro material is rarely that thorough or well-written.

Holy fucking shit on a bone.

I'm a member of that forum. (see username)

Are you a member there? If so...who, if I may ask.

Nah, Koi just pointed it out to me this morning and I thought it was funny.

Ahhh. Yeah, gotcha.

I haven't been there in a good while, so I'm not caught up on happenings there.

Some of the fans do get a wee bit LULzy I'll admit. But I'm not one of them.

I'd probably wind up calling the guy out anyway and then getting banned for my troubles if I was on there--and I've had enough problems this week.

Naaah. Nelson is pretty strict and is probably calling out Shadow as it is.

I'm surprised anyone bought it. I mean, really:

At the start of the Second war the ten Legions formed the core of the Autobot army. Two Legions were decimated in combat and a third was so reduced in numbers it was dissolved. Two more Legions were disbanded at the end of the Second War. During the Golden Age the five Legions formed Cybertron's standing army, maintained to respond to any xenos threat or to contain any public disorder or civilian crisis that the TEC could not handle. Later in the Golden Age many of the Legions' most veteran troops retired on pension and few new recruits were available to take their places. As a result the 5th Legion was dissolved.

Does that look like the work of a writer who can't even keep plotholes out of their own movie, let alone develop anything even remotely related to their history?

You might get that sort of thing in the comics, but not in a movie or cartoon. They don't tend to make elaborate histories when it won't make them money.

From: [identity profile] bumblebee-1983.livejournal.com
I totally agree. It takes too much time to go into that big of history.

And it'll upset the fans of the originals too much. Can't have that! *sarcasm*

Mostly because they usually have it outlined in their own fanfic that they won't stop showing everyone, despite the fact that characterization is out the window and their OCs are Sues.

(Note: I do not include Koi in that statement)

Fishscluion! ;) Well, I try to make the fanon fit around the canon rather than the other way ...

Pretty much. It's an extrapolation from the canon, rather than "this is me taking the canon and making it better. And by better I mean changing all the bits I didn't like."

I've seen it done with Armada, and it turns all the 'cons into brute stereotypes. Because it's better not to have any bad guys with minds of their own outside sadism or small, irrelevant quirks.

Nifty. How would we find out if he has?

Well, if you're a member, you can PM your information vs. Shadow's.

Or you could just find out if he's looking into it by PMing him. Guide him in the right direction on getting the misinformation looked into and pulled.

Then again some people may have already called Shadow out on it and have gone to Nelson. He may be sitting back to see how it turns out.

I'm a member there, but as I've said before, haven't been there in a while, so I'm a wee bit behind. Nelson is pretty good about weeding out the misinformation (he's in constant contact with Bay). Orci's also a member there, he occasionally gets on. I've spoken with him a few times. Very nice guy.

But the best thing to do is just to PM Nelson (or e-mail him) and see if he's got the information you do.

Good luck. :) If it's misinformation that's being spread on the board, he'll get to the bottom of it and take action.

I've sent Nelson a small PM asking if anyone else had reported the threads and if not, did they count as a reportable matter? We shall see what happens.

Thanks for the pointer :)

No problem!

:)

Good luck in getting to the bottom of it!

... well, he's just deleted the threads. That was fast O_o

From: [identity profile] bumblebee-1983.livejournal.com
HAHA!!! That was fast!

Now Shadow's probably going to throw a big fit since Nelson doesn't like to explain his actions. LOL!

Be prepared for that backlash. ;) But be sure to have all your information and ducks in a row when it does happen. :)

From: [identity profile] koilungfish.livejournal.com
Alarmingly so. Wonder if he deleted them because of the copy-paste or the insinuations of insider info?

I'd hope Nelson PMed Shadow and told him why he was deleting the threads.

What sort of backlash do you mean? I'm not exactly going to be hanging around the board looking for hassle ...

Date: 2009-01-19 05:19 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bumblebee-1983.livejournal.com
I just mean that Shadow may bring up his posts again in the public part and get them deleted again and then start up something out of anger, like "Why were my posts deleted?" and so forth, trying to get an answer out of Nelson.

I've seen it happen MANY times before. Too many to count. *sigh*

Just don't let it be known publicly that you reported it/brought it to Nelson's attention and you should be good. :)

Date: 2009-01-19 05:23 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] koilungfish.livejournal.com
Ah well, if he does that, it's between him and Nelson. I only went to that board to find out why I was getting hits from it and now my stuff is gone, I have no reason to go back.

Nelson responded awfully fast - he had those threads down in five minutes. I do wonder if someone else hadn't reported them already.

Date: 2009-01-19 05:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] bumblebee-1983.livejournal.com
Someone might have already reported them if they went buh-bye that fast.

But it's a good thing to look into, that's for sure!

From: [identity profile] koilungfish.livejournal.com
Makes sense. There were a couple of people in the thread, one of whom PMed me about the situation and the other of whom's listed on Nelson's close buddy list. Might well have been one of them.
