Dec. 7th, 2008 02:34 pmWell, last night rocked.
First Rath and Martin came over and we explored the Winter Fair Market whatsit for interesting things and hamburgers.

Well, Morris dancing counts as interesting, although apparently they weren't very good at it.

Strange abandoned yards are always interesting, if only because of what might be inside them or underneath them. Ideally not corpses, those smell a bit weird after a while.
Then dark set in and Rath and I went for a wander. I'm not hugely partial to the temperatures around here at nights, but the inner city is absolutely gorgeous once the sun goes down--especially the bridges and back alleys, it's the sort of place you get gaslamp horror and steampunk mystery out of the sheer weirdness of the place. The place has an entirely different mood.

Skaters out on the temporary skating rink on Parker's Piece, out in their dresses and corsetry because apparently they felt those were appropriate skating attire. They did look very nice in them until they inevitably fell over again for the third time in five minutes--at least they were jovial about the whole matter. I'll have to try it myself if we come back when it's less crowded, haven't been on the ice in a while...

The University Arms hotel, both the outside and the window to which we pressed our little Dickensenian noses. When I get rich, I'm going to have dinner there.

This is yet another inadvertantly creepy part of the Grand Arcade, which becomes both creepier and more interesting when it's cleared out of people and you can just wander around with abandon and look at headless models hanging in chains from the ceiling. Honestly, who designed that?

Or possible they just couldn't be arsed, like these guys.

We have no idea what these are, they were just stuck onto the side of a building.

More building bits. I honestly cannot recall the name of the second one, but apparently that's the window from which you can climb out to the Senate roof and put vans and things on it.

After dark is really the only time to go see the Corpus Clock. The streets are mostly deserted and there's no cars, so the loudest sound is the methodical clicking of the clock and the Chronophage going in carefully measured steps down the fourth dimension. You can get stuck there staring for a long time if you don't watch yourself.
Of course, you can also go have hot chocolate at CB2 and listen to ABBA, which is probably a lot better for your health and sanity.

I absolutely adore Christmas here just because of this sort of thing. Random brass players out on the street wishing Merry Christmas to people just because it's Christmasand they want money. It's so endearing.

And...Ares Butchers? Dude.
