I've argued several times with my mother and somehow it's all my fault, my brother's had a meltdown over not being able to get a book at Mr. K's, my dad tried to talk me into going to see my gran when I'm not exactly in the best of conditions to do it, and I'm no longer at liberty to leave my gum wrappers all over the place. Why do I come home again?

Oh, yeah. Free food.

A master's student at Georgetown is working on fan fiction for her thesis. There's a survey and she needs as many people from as many fandoms as possible to complete it so that the diversity of fan culture is represented.

If you have a minute, please check it out and send the link to your friends. The survey can be found at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=1idSovixsYIF7EpKO2EGpQ_3d_3d .

I've agreed to help spread the word, but if you have any questions/concerns, you can email her at kem82 @ georgetown.edu.

Incoming fandom_wank alert - there's almost certain to be an argument somewhere over whether we need to ask authors for permission before we link their fics in that survey. >.>

(I certainly know I'd want to hear about it if anyone was linking any of mine! Mostly for reasons of vanity...)

I've never understood why people wouldn't want their stuff linked. Publicity's publicity, innit?

...*cough*

Because, y'know... what if the data collection is a front for a publishing house who own the copyright on whatever you're ficcing? What if it gets plagiarised? What if you only wrote it because your best friends wanted you to and you're kind of ashamed of it and it's only there for them? What if your Mom finds out?

...cough up, dude. *pointed villain-style eyebrow raise* *smirks a bit* Which one?

I can't see why a publishing house would go to all that trouble--and it was only Transformers and Ghost Rider and neither company seems to care.

Devil in Disguise. *blush* And I put y'on my favorite authors list for the fandom.

Well, yes, but I was answering your question in the sense of "why would anyone mind" rather than "why would I mind". Someone who writes for, say, Anne Rice's Vampires verse might have a lot more reason to dive under the counter than me.

...Devil in Disguise? O_O I thought that one kinda failed, myself. *blinks* Thanks, though. ^_^

Ah, right. Although I can't see Anne Rice having that much subtlety, at least not now.

Well, I had to pick one and that one seemed the most accessible to a new audience. And you haven't written the Apocolypsefic yet, so I couldn't post that one.

That was hard. I can't pick just ONE. I can't believe I spent the better part of a half-hour agonizing over my top pick. O_o;;;

I couldn't even fill out all six, I just picked three and went with it. I know the ones I like, but I can't remember titles, authors, or links.
