Now that makes sense. Ratchet doesn't want anyone else getting there first and hurting him.

(Ultra Magnus obviously couldn't deal with Shockwave then- doesn't work so well in past tense)

My guess is Longarm Prime snuck up on him. Maybe 'could I see your hammer for a moment, it looks dented'.
