So, my school literary magazine, "Branching Out", was having a school-wide poetry contest. I'm on the staff, but poems are judged individually by all staff members, with the highest scorers being the winners. I entered one of mine into the contest, and the winners were announced today.

There was a tie for first place. Guess who was half of that tie.

Edit:

Progeny

It should have been a dark and stormy night
When the creature was brought to life
When the howling monster came screaming into the light

Under the glare of the sterile false sun
The protohuman was push-pulled from its lair
The Hippocratal mage invoked the demon

A composite of souls
Two essences twined to form
Four writhing limbs and a gaping hole

Mere flesh becomes life by transubstantiation
By sins committed in the dim evening light
Now their lives are consumed by their creation

And the hungry mouth demands tribute as they hold it
And already the burden of decades settles upon them
And yet the proud parents smile at their imprisonment
