For Dreadboots and based on RP, because this was bugging me all day.

“We’ll have to find some way of explaining him,” said Dreadmoon. “The truth would be awkward.”

“I’ve already taken care of it,” said Starscream as he studied the mech curled up on top of Dreadmoon, standing out like a moon against Dreadmoon’s midnight-blue body.

“Really? Who is he?”

“He was a scout at a remote outpost that very few people have heard of and fewer have been to. His strange make-up is due to having to repair himself with scavenged parts after an accident.”

Dreadmoon absently stroked the lighter mech’s head. “And the name? I doubt he’ll consent to a pseudonym.”

“Pure chance. Many mechs have the same name. The similarity is duly noted in his falsified profile.”

Starscream smirked, and Dreadmoon returned fire with the exact same tilt of the head. “You missed his surgery.”

“I was busy making him an official Decepticon in the public database. And I’m sure you recorded it.”

“The techs were quite surprised when they opened him up. They had to rewire him completely in a few places to make him compatible.” Dreadmoon’s fingers languidly traced their way down a grey wing as he spoke. “He’s no longer able to…what was that term?”

“Powerlink,” said a muffled voice from somewhere near Dreadmoon’s chest. “And the process is overrated anyway.”

Starscream leaned over to look the groggy flier in the optics. “I see you’ve finally stopped pretending to be unconscious, Thrust.”

Thrust turned over, lying back against Dreadmoon and looking as innocent as a Decepticon could ever be. “With such a fine berth and beautiful voices to listen to, can you blame me?”

Starscream looked up at Dreadmoon. “You couldn’t have gotten them to remove his sycophancy circuitry?”

“I think it would have killed him if they had.”

“Are you quite done?” asked Thrust as he sat up.

“Oh no,” said Dreadmoon. “We’re just beginning.”

Thrust found himself abruptly silenced and remained wordless so for the next half hour. He didn’t complain.

*sly little smile, tilting his head at an almost sweet-and-innocent angle* I'm flattered. It seems my informant was trustworthy after all. *not like he'd ever considered that Dreadmoon had lied, but there's no need to let on exactly who gave him such detailed information...*

*Thrust has no illusions on who gave him the information. Dreadmoon is the only one he's talked to in detail.* You should thank him, then. He was also quite helpful to me.

*optics go artfully wide* Why Thrust, what are you implying? *Slag. One option down, but playing dumb never hurt him*

*as if speaking to a younger person* Why, Starscream, that's no way to begin our new relationship. You know who I'm talking about.

Although, it was amusing. He acted the same way when I spoke about you.

*optics narrow, just noticeable*

Did he now. I doubt it - we're not all that alike in the core. *grins, pleasantly but with a hint of warning*

*restrains a chuckle and studies his own fingers* Slightly protective, playing dumb...I don't understand most of it, but you must share at least a few traits.

*scornful laugh* Protective? Dreadmoon? The only one he's protective of is his city, and the only things I'm protective of are my rank and my skin. You couldn't bribe me enough to play one of those strategy games of his.

*releases the chuckle* Ah, so the name comes out now. He refused to admit his relationship with you until I pressed the issue. It's not necessarily something that's public knowledge, I take it.

And you don't know what you're missing with ma'hil.

*optics narrow further, then his mood changes in a blink of an eye and he shrugs nonchalently* If you'd rather carry on playing games, I'll pretend neither of us knew what we were talking about and not mention it again.

*faintly smug smirk* Of course it's private. It's so private that everyone else on Cybertron knows about it. ~~That's partly the point.~~

Oh I know, all right. I have no desire to become addicted to moving a few pieces around a game-board. *snorts derisively*

*shrugs, putting his hands up passively* As you wish, commander. It's none of my business.

There are worse addictions to have. It's something to do between battles.

*promptly changes tack* Why not? I thought you said you could be honest with me. *smiles, a hint of nastiness entering in*

There are plenty of other entertaining things to do between fights that don't involve planning thirty-seven moves ahead of yourself. *scowls at nothing in particular but vaguely in Thrusts direction*

Honest, yes. Nosy, no. I wouldn't want to be rude. If all of Cybertron is aware, then it is not that important.

*shakes his head in admiration that seems only partly feigned* Well, this is interesting. I seem to have fallen in with the only two mechs on Cybertron that still give a slag about manners.

It shows you are discriminatory in picking your officers and companions. An admirable trait.

*throws his head back and laughs* Obviously!

*chuckles and waits for Starscream to stop laughing* So, exactly what position would that put me in? Or would I not have any sort of official title.

I'm sure we can come up with something if you want one. *airy, offhand gesture, still grinning* How about 'official reprisentative of alternate universes with yet another useless leader'? *snickers*

*laughs* I'd prefer not to have to represent my universe. It has very little going for it. Chief tactician and advisor, perhaps.

So I hear. *nasty little grin* Some tings never change, even across galaxies - Meatron is still an idiot.

If that's what you like the sound of, then title away. *expansive handwave* It's not like we're running short of them.

It's a universal constant, I'm afraid.

I like to know where my little niche is, as meaningless as a title may be. It makes me feel wanted.

*grins* It's good to know there's something stable in the universe.

I'm sure we have somewhere for you, title or no title. If you're in, you're wanted... *leaves it hanging for a moment, smirking a little* ...otherwise I wouldn't have given you the option in the first place.

Yes, but it would be nice if the stable thing were something else.

*smirks and makes a small bow* Quite true. I am willing and eager to serve you. *looks up with a slight glint in his optics, hinting that he will serve but he will not be servile*

But this way we know he's always an idiot, and there will always be room for - improvement. *nasty smirk*

I can tell. *smirk gets more pronounced and his optics glitter deviously as he returns the look*

True. *wonders, though, if certain elements of Starscream are also constant, and is mildly concerned*

*straightens up* Shall I work from here or is there some place you would like to put me?
