seiberwing: (Hail Hydra!)
Oh, for god's sake. I love the PW kink meme, I really do, but by law of averages it can bring some very dramatic fail.

Yes, but Japan is perfectly capable of drawing people who look Japanese. They chose to portray "themselves" as un-Asian.

Where do I even begin with these two sentences? It's rather notable in the wake of the racebending scandal around the The Last Airbender where that same argument was used to annoyingly bad ends, but in the Phoenix Wright fandom it is even stupider. The Ace Attorney series was made in Japan, by Japanese people, and original set in Japan. This isn't even a racism issue, this is a 'how stupid are you' issue.

Good grief. I mean, let's look at some of these un-Asian people.

Cut for pictures. )

For additional interest, I dug up an interview with one of the localizers for Justice For All.

Lost: Conversely, what sorts of stuff do you add to give the Phoenix Wright dialogue a bit more of a Western flavor? Can you give an example of that?

JH: I think what makes the dialogue more Western are things like colloquial phrases, sayings, and even the odd reference to a Western movie or show. The dialogue for the most part, in my opinion, is not really country-specific, so I think what lends the feeling of where a game takes place are the little things, such as Maya liking hamburgers instead of ramen, and using American law terms, such as “pleading the 5th”. Also, the inclusion of characters of different races makes it feel more like America to me, since Japan is pretty homogeneous.

Bolding mine. The bulk of the Ace Attorney characters were drawn, originally, as Asian. They're not all Asian in the localization and some of them aren't even from countries that actually exist, but they weren't drawn specifically un-Asian. How you could so badly miss that in a series where Japanese-style spirit mediums are core to the plot is completely beyond me.

Title: House DeMasque
Fandom: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Pairing/characters: Desiree Delite/Ron Delite, Desiree DeLite/Mask*DeMasque
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: The Ace Attorney series and all related characters and settings belong to Capcom.
Summary: How can a mild-mannered sweetheart and roguish master thief possibly be the same person? Desiree isn't quite sure, but she's intent on finding out.
Warnings: Implied sex, criminal behavior
Author’s Note: I did this on a prompt from the PW Kink Meme, hence it being a bit chopp from being done in bits and pieces. Dessie and Ron are quite possibly the only canonical happy and (mostly) stable couple in the entire game series, and when the opportunity for a bit of identity fuck came paired with that fluff I fell in love with the pairing.

If this is not your thing, don't worry, your regularly unscheduled gay will return soon. )

Title: It’s Not A Sandwich
Fandom: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Pairing/characters: Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth, Tyrell Badd, The Chief, OCs
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: The Ace Attorney series and all related characters and settings belong to Capcom.
Prompt: 133. Any cop fandom, any character. Being LGBT does not automatically make one an expert on all related topics, but the rest of the team/squad seems to think it should.
Summary: Gumshoe has a hard enough time just doing his job. He doesn’t need people expecting him to know about all this complicated LGBT business just because he’s dating Mr. Edgeworth.
Warnings: Your usual Ace Attorney dose of murder and convoluted plots, nothing you wouldn’t find in the game itself.
Canon Note: Takes place before Ace Attorney Investigations with no spoilers or references to game events, although one minor character is taken from that particular game because he fit the position I was going to devote to an OC. Besides, it’s Badd. He’s awesome. I had to put him in.
Author’s Note: This fic contains a number of inaccuracies related to the real-world legal system and I fully admit to their purposeful existence. This is a canon where one can cross-examine parrots, assault the judge with a whip, and use random stuff you picked off the ground as legitimate evidence, so the AA legal system can pretty much do whatever it wants to in order to get the plot done. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] flight_wo_wings and [livejournal.com profile] alanahikarichan for reading it over for me!

This is the real prompt fill, apologies for the confusion. )

Riddle me this.

What causes immensely itchy, swollen welts to come and go on one's arms and hands (and only there, nothing on the torso, legs, or face) regardless of whether one has been wearing sleeves?

Whatever they are, they're driving me bats and it's spreading. I've stuck on every cream I can get my hands on and now I'm taking some Prednisone--the only reason it took me so long to start taking it is that there's a chance it could interact badly with my Lamictal to cause mania and irritability.

My manias are not the fun bouncy manias so much as the "I hate fucking everyone for being useless fools and will rage at the slightest provocation" manias. Certainly I can keep it under my hat if necessary, but I really hope it just clears up my itching without incident because I hate bottling these things up. Mom's keeping an eye on my behavior, just in case, it happened to her the last time she took Prednisone.

ALSO. ALSO. I HAVE FINISHED ACE ATTORNEY INVESTIGATIONS AND OMG SO MUCH AWESOME WHEN DOES THE NEXT ONE COME OUT PLEASE. ALSO WHERE IS ALL THE DETECTIVE BADD RELATED FIC I MUST HAVE MORE HARDBOILED BADASSERY. OR BADDASSERY. EITHER WAY DO WANT.

I just found this amusingly hilarious, in relation to the spreading fame of [livejournal.com profile] zarla. And well-deserved, too!

Also, anyone else think Ron DeLite should have gone into acting after T&T? There needs to be a Mask*DeMasque anime along the gentleman thief genre lines.

Damn you, [livejournal.com profile] zarla. You and your Mambolawyers getting me addicted to that stupid Mamboleo and now I can't stop listening to it over and over again. It is very catchy and I'm in Yanni Yogi's position of being stuck with the big scary orange-clad song in my head.

At the risk of being labeled a traditionalist, I have to say that Apollo Justice is far inferior to the Phoenix Wright series. My two main beefs are with gameplay and the story/characters...and since those are pretty much the most important things in a game that's not XBox360 levels of pretty, it doesn't speak well of the game as a whole.

Cut for ramblings and very, very mild spoilers. As in spoilers for things you'd see on the back of the box. )

It's not a bad game. If you've run out of Phoenix Wright and want more lawyers I'd recommend picking it up, but it's probably the weakest game in the series. Me, I'll be over here waiting for Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth.
seiberwing: (Snooze)
No more Red Bull for me. It gives me wings in my stomach and that's not exactly comfy.

Took large 1.5 hour-straight-essay test in HUM 124. Not too worried about it, I'm pulling an A+ in that class. *loves her teacher so very much* My fingers hurt like hell, though.

Have also discovered that my 79% merits me a flat B when combined with my 3 extra credit points--making me either third or second in the class for highest score on the exam. Almost everyone else had their grades go down; mine went up. ^_____^

And for fannish stuffs, Maya made both an "All Your Base" joke and an American Pie joke ("This one time, at lawyer camp, Nick-" "Okay!") in PW2. And that amused me.

After spending a few days with [livejournal.com profile] wingdance and playing her DS, I am completely and hopelessly addicted to "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney". In three days I got up to halfway through the last case. All the characters are completely and totally awesome (except for Meekins, who just bugs me), the game's enthralling and...yeah, I admit it, the slash readings are off the scale. Edgeworth is an angsty sort of awesome, Wright just plain rocks and Gumshoe...he started out as annoying, but he definitely grew on me. Maya's not that bad either when she keeps her mouth shut. If anyone knows the location of good fic and art for the game, I'd like to see it. I've already exhausted y!Gallery and DevArt.

Also, got this in a PM this morning.

I saw that you edited my "Lack of Forgiveness" story, and thank you. But next
time, tell me what you are doing with my stories. So that way I know what you
are doing with them.

Thank you
Kellyq

If you haven't been keeping up, KellyQ is the author of the fic I've been MSTing. I didn't know she was still in the TF fic business and sent back a reply to ask if I could continue.

That's okay ^_ ^ I'm now going back and fixing some of the stuff on "Lack of
Forgiveness" I do want to make it better. Now for your question on finishing it,
I'm not sure when the next update is, but I'll let you know ... and I'm having
someone look over this story with me.

So no one can say I don't have permission to do it. Not sure how she found out, but my LJ is listed on my ff.net profile. I'm just glad she's cool with it.
